Food & Dining

Home-cooked warmth at 5,100 feet.

Meals Made With Heart

At Woods at Cantonment, food is not an afterthought — it is an act of welcome. Every meal served within these century-old walls is prepared with the same unhurried care that has defined this estate since 1912. Drawing from family recipes passed down through generations and the fresh produce of the Darjeeling hills, our kitchen celebrates the honest, wholesome flavours of the mountains. Whether you are settling in after a morning trek or warming yourself by the fireplace on a misty afternoon, a hearty, home-cooked meal will always be waiting.

The Hill Breakfast

Fresh · Warm · Meal

Mornings at 5,100 feet begin with purpose. A freshly brewed pot of Darjeeling tea arrives first, followed by a wholesome spread made from scratch — eggs, toast, local accompaniments, and whatever the kitchen has prepared fresh that morning. Step outside with your cup. The hills are already up.

Lunch & Evening Tea

Midday · Warm · Home-Style

A proper sit-down lunch of home-cooked rice, dal, vegetables, and seasonal preparations — the kind of meal that slows the afternoon in the best possible way. As evening arrives, tea and coffee are served again, this time with light hillside bites to carry you through to dinner.

Evening · Warm · Communal

The day ends around the table. Dinner at Woods at Cantonment is a full, home-cooked affair — warm, unhurried, and prepared with the same care as every meal before it. On select evenings, dinner moves closer to the bonfire. Either way, it is always worth sitting down for.

Communal Dining

“There is something about a shared table in an old stone room that makes strangers feel like old friends.”

The dining room at Woods at Cantonment is one of the most beloved spaces on the estate. Built in the colonial tradition, with thick brick walls, wooden beams, and natural light filtering through heritage windows, it is a room that invites you to slow down and stay a little longer. Meals here are served communally — a practice we have always believed in. Guests from different corners of the world come together over the same table, share stories from their treks, trade recommendations, and leave with memories that go far beyond the food itself.

The Morning Ritual

Breakfast with a View

“On mornings like these, with the mist lifting over the hills and a hot cup in your hands, the world feels entirely unhurried.”

There are breakfasts, and then there are mornings at Woods at Cantonment. Step out onto the verandah as the Darjeeling hills emerge slowly from their morning mist, and settle in with a freshly brewed pot of Darjeeling tea and a plate made entirely from scratch. The air is cool, the valley stretches endlessly before you, and the only sound is birdsong from the coniferous forest below. It is the kind of morning that reminds you why you travelled here in the first place — not just to see the hills, but to truly feel them. At 5,100 feet, even breakfast becomes something worth remembering.
